Members of Lambda Delta XI Diaternity are all trained within the organization's Safe Space Program as advocates for individuals from diverse communities. Our members are able to act as advocates and provide "safe spaces" for students who may need someone to talk to or someone who can assist them with concerns they have. Our members take training in order for them to have a better understanding of not only the queer community and their allies but also other diverse populations as well. Members are prepared to be effective advocates for the queer community on and off campus, as well as mentors and role models for other students. The Safe Space Program is an integral part of the Prospective Member training prior to full membership.
What is Safe Space? A Safe Space is a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for not only the queer community, but other diverse communities as well. A Safe Space also provides a forum in which students can express their views openly and have engaging discussions on various topics without being attacked or bullied for their viewpoints. Research shows that queer students with many supportive allies feel safer at school, skip fewer classes, and earn higher grade than students without ally support. Members of Lambda Delta Xi provide that ally and Safe Space support.
The Goal of Lambda Delta Xi's Safe Space The major goal of our Safe Space program is to provide a space in which individuals can foster and grow without limitations.
Our Safe Space Advocacy Obligations to the Community
We wish to identify and mobilize our members who are empathetic and knowledgeable about the queer community and current issues to act a resource and advocate for all members of the queer community.
Our members provide evidence of their support for the queer community and their allies by displaying their Lambda Delta Xi Safe Space Sticker as a visible symbol of our commitment to the queer community.
We wish to reduce discrimination and harassment of the queer community, their allies, and other diverse populations both at our Chapter locations and also in the greater community.
